Primordial Sound Meditation

What is Primordial Sound Meditation?

Primordial Sound Meditation is a silent, mantra-based meditation technique derived from the ancient Vedic tradition of India. Practiced for thousands of years, meditation is a tool for rediscovering the body’s own inner intelligence.  Primordial Sound Meditation is over 5,000 years old and is based on the sound the universe was singing at the time of your birth. At it’s most basic level, everything in creation is made of sound or vibration, even  the universe also has it’s own sound or vibration.

Primordial Sound Meditation uses individually selected sounds of nature known as mantras to take us beyond the level of activity we call “life”.  These primordial sounds were cognized by ancient sages and enlightened beings thousands of years ago.  The ancient sages noticed that these universal sounds were different at different times during the lunar cycle.  By using ancient Vedic mathematical calculations, they recorded the changes in the vibration of the universe in relation to the position of the moon.

Primordial Sound Meditation mantras are chosen based on a person’s date, time and location of birth which then calculates the vibration or sound the universe was making at the time of your physical birth.  We believe that integrating your primordial sound into your meditation practice will take you to deeper domains of consciousness, and is used to help you gently drift back and forth from silence, to thoughts, and then back into silence.  Primordial Sound Meditation can help you disconnect from your thoughts, experiencing increased creativity, clarity, vitality, and taps into the part of the brain that intuitively knows oneness with our highest self.

All Primordial Sound Meditation mantras begin with the sound Om.  Om is the universal sound which represents the collective sound of all the vibrations in the universe.  The next part of your mantra is the Bija or seed sound.  This is the sound that is based on the vibration the universe was making at the time of your birth.  All Primordial Sound Meditations mantras end with the sound Namah.  This sound represents the self expressing itself as all the infinite aspects of creation and then curving back within itself to the unmanifest.  The mantra is used for its sound or vibrational quality, and has no meaning.  Attaching meaning to your Primordial Sound Mantra holds your awareness at the level of the mind, and Primordial Sound Meditation is derived to take you into a state of mindlessness, pure potentiality, unbounded by thoughts and meaning.  You will feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and re-birthed.  The benefits are immeasurable.

Primordial Sound Meditation Mantra prices are available on the Yoga and Fitness Page.  Call 707-824-9690 and schedule your group/couple workshop series today and become one with the unity of your authentic sound.  Or call Chopra University at 760-494-1614 and let them know that you are sent by Deborah Shemesh.

“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet.  It is a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there, buried underneath 50,000-80,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.”     – Deepak Chopra, M.D.

Meditation Introduction

Meditation Introduction

Meditation is a technology that benefits body, mind, and soul.  Through inner exploration, meditation awakens creativity, healing, and transformation.  We spend most of our lives looking outward to the world of form and phenomena, believing that the source of happiness, peace, and fulfillment lies external to ourselves.  During meditation, we expand our internal reference point from local to non-local, from constricted to expanded awareness, from ego to a field of ever-present witnessing awareness. Meditation allows us to explore our essential nature, restoring the memory of wholeness in our lives.

Meditation is not about forcing your mind to be quiet, rather it’s a process to rediscover the quietness that’s already there. Behind the turbulence of your thoughts (between 50,000 to 80,000 daily) there is silence, a silence that is not disturbed by the past or concerns of the future.  We tend to think of meditation as a program for stress management.  Stress is caused by encountering obstacles to the fulfillment of our desires.   Sure, meditation will aid you in managing your stress, but the real gift in meditation is that we find out who we really are.

There are no fast and hard rules for meditation, there is no right or wrong way.  The most important ingredient is to be comfortable, and to allow yourself to witness your experiences without judgement. There are many methods of meditation, such as following the breath, the SO-HUM meditation, repetition of a mantra or sound are other forms. There are also special meditations for children, or for people with various challenges.   Any way that works for you is the right way.

Primordial Sound Meditation is derived from the yoga tradition of India, and is a method that I teach in addition to breath meditation and So-Hum. I invite you to visit regularly to learn more about Meditation, it is a journey to expanded awareness. Remember any way that takes you into the silence of your intrinsic nature, is the right way for you.  It is important to remember that meditation is not an intellectual process.  In fact, the less you try to control the process, the greater the benefits.

Namaste,

Deborah Shemesh-Chopra Center Certified Primordial Sound Meditation Instructor
